RAL 5003 equivalent (Saphire Blue)

Post by herberr »

The suggested main color for my 1/43 BBR Maserati MC12 has according to the manual RAL color 5003. What do you guys typically do when you only have the RAL color and don't have an equivalent available from manufacturers like Tamiya, Pactra, Gunze or others?
Mix two colors? If yes, how can you determine the right mixture or find a conversion table? Or are there for example car shops that sell/make these RAL colors instantly?

Thanks in advance for your tips.

Ordering that colour from Hiroboy (ZeroPaints) would also be my first choice.
But as you live in the US, Zero Paints aren't available as Steve (Hiroboy) doesn't ship to the US.

Here is a table with RAL to Testor's conversion... Sadly, RAL 5003 isn't on it:

A bit snooping around on the net gave me this:

And if FS35050 is a good comparison for RAL 5003, you can see in the link below that Tamiya X3 might be just the colour...

Hope this helps (a bit).

I think it's only Brazil that Hiroboy won't ship to because the packages that contained paint kept getting returned because Brazil's customs department kept rejecting them as import prohibited.I'm sure he ships to the US just fine.I know he won't send aerosols via airmail because Royal Mail in the UK prohibit this, but the Zero paints aren't aerosol's so they should be fine.I'd check with Steve at Hiroboy first and see what the deal is.Otherwise if Steve can't help then any good auto paint outlet will be able to mix you the Ral colour that you require over the counter.
