Tamiya McLaren MP4/7 1/20th FINISHED
I bought this kit back when it first became available in 1993, and it has been sitting in the stash every since. Unfortunately, at the time, I had sprayed it very badly with Humbrol enamels which needed stripping using Mr Muscle oven cleaner, and the decals had long since perished having got damp somewhere along the line. The decals were replaced with a new set from F1 Specialties, which is also where the Marlb***s and the extra tyre decals came from.
It’s basically a box-stock build, so no extra wiring etc. I used Bare Metal Foil for the heat shielding in the engine bay, and for the mirror surfaces, the front wing end plates are from the Perfect Parts set, and there are little bits of Scale Motorsport Kevlar decal on the bottom of those, plus some of the underneath of the undertray. The wheels are Studio27 aluminium replacements and have much better detail and definition than the plastic kit parts. I decided this time to go with the moulded-in seatbelts which, after a careful bit of painting, look pretty good.
The paint is all Tamiya, and this is the first time I have masked and painted this colour-scheme with TS sprays rather than using the decals. I think it looks great. All other colours are X/XF Tamiya acrylics. The exhausts were weathered with the Tamiya Weathering Master Set D.
A nice, easy to build kit, giving a great result.

Stunning paint work man!
How did you go about painting the S27 aluminum rims... did you use a primer, if so what kind?

HEY, HEY, HEY, HEY!!!!
Very very impressive!!!!
prove that it's not necessary to get into "superdetailing" to get a very nice car!!!
The 'boros are really nice, correct size.
Very good!

Lovely. I've got that kit to build. I've the Museum Collection 'Morons' which come with etched wing endplates for the Monaco Senna/Mansell duel. Gonna have to build this car even if it does require a bit of surgery.
Anyway back to your car. How did you prepare the turned metal wheels?
