My Last Build as a College Student - Tamiya Brabham BT50
Hi everyone,
I just finished up what will likely be my last build as a college student yesterday. I tackled Tamiya's 1/20 Brabham BT50 and it was a very nice kit. I added wiring and plumbing, tin foil heatshielding, and a PE harness. I used the seatbelt set from Eduard and although fiddly, I think it's a nice set - especially for the money. I used Alclad aluminum for the monocoque, Vallejo acrylics for the engine/gearbox, and Tamiya white primer for the bodywork.
The kit decals were toast, so I used the Studio 27 set for the 1981 British Grand Prix. Piquet ran the car in practice, but it was slower than the Cosworth-powered BT49 and not used in the race. This was my best experience with Studio 27 decals yet, they weren't as brittle as usual. The body doesn't fit over the added engine detail and I messed up the finish, so I am leaving it in the spares box for now.
As always, comments and critiques are appreciated,
Jake

Very nice! Hearing the kit is great (it is Tamiya after all) makes me want it all the more. Wish i could go back to building while in college a few years ago, so much time!
And so you touch this limit, something happens and you suddenly can go a little bit further. With your mind power, your determination, your instinct, and the experience as well, you can fly very high.

Nice work, Jake! I like the tasteful amount of engine bay wiring, the Alclad alumi, the nice mix of metal paints (do I see a bit of dry-brushing for highlights on the edges?), the foil heat-shielding (I used tobacco back foil on mine) and the decals set. Don't see many of these Tamiya BT50's done with the Pemex logos.
Thanks for sharing!
Cheers, Chris

Great work you've done on the Brabham!!!
And a big congrats with finishing University, now get a job!!! OK, only joking.
Scary thing is my model purchasing went up exponentially after I graduated, fair warning!
Anyhow, Congrats on both the Brabham and finishing college.
Cheers,
Chris
