Magnesium/Gold Paint ** HELP**

Post by Makulit »

Many years ago there was a paint producer of a metallic paint called race car magnesium
it had the pretty dam close to the right tint of a gold/steel used on some Moto GP cases and I also used on F1 cars

Well the bottle disappeared during a move and I can't remember who produced the paint
so I need help does anybody have a mix using Alcald paints

I am just a humble rattle can user and by no means an expert, but Tamiya TS-84 Metallic Gold is pretty nice.

Alclad makes a pale gold that is pretty close. You could add a little burnt steel to darken it.

Tamiya has it the jar in their acrylic line. They also have magnesium silver.

For an engine case you can brush paint it.

Hi Makulit,
The Race Car Magnesium was producted by Metalizer and, after, Testor Metalizer.
I have yet some bottles and it is perfect for Ferrari 12 cylinder boxer engines ( 1970 until 1980 years).

Will TS 87/ X31 work? I know they say "titanium", but without being a metallurgist, I can't tell.

Yes it was the perfect match for some of the older F1 gearboxes and some Moto GP parts , I now use Alclad gold with a smoke spray over to replicate the same finish.
And to replicate the texture I use a brushed on Gunze primer and a final coat of a flat finish
It took a while before I finally settled where I was happy with the results
