Need info on project Ferrari F1-2000 Fiorano version
I just started a new project: the conversion of a Tamiya F1-2000 into a Fiorano test version.
All i have is 2 pictures of a die cast version of this car.
Yesterday my FB-friend Martijn informed me the wing of these models is completely wrong.
According to his info there should be a delta shaped wing on this car.
The model has a straight front wing (lower part).
Now Martijn knows more about Ferrari as i do, so i believe him.
Did the manufacturer really make such a huge mistake on this car?
One would expect some attention to create a correct car, especially as this is an out of the ordinary version.
On the web i am unable to find pictures of the Fiorano car.
Is there anyone who has pictures that could help me?

Re: Need info on project Ferrari F1-2000 Fiorano version
Hi Kars...
Martijn is correct the early version used in races did have a delta front wing... BUT!!!
Did they Ferrari use both wings on the test car??? a straight wing and a delta wing!!!
That's the question... If it's a pre season test, surely it makes sense to test both
This gives them the choice of which option to use either during which race, Perhaps the
early season tracks favoured the delta, in Ferrari's point of view!!! I've searched as well Kars,
I can find no definitive answer either, but there are some very knowledgeable people on f1m...
Someone will know and surprize us both!!!

The hard life of a modeler, Steve!
Exactly my point:
'Did they Ferrari use both wings on the test car??? a straight wing and a delta wing'
I don't mind to put either a straight or a delta wing on the car, but would like to be accurate, if possible.

I wouldn't give too much about the accuracy of those handbuilt models. They generally have no problem to create complete fantasy cars to sell an extra series to the collectors.
Your point of this being a test run for a straight wing could be true, but...
- Ferrari used the arrow shaped wing for most of the season ( and the previous one ). They ran a straight wing late in the season for two races IIRC. Malaysia and Japan I think.
- so logic suggests that presumed wing comparison test happened during the season and not at the very beginning
- then it doesn't make much sense the chassis is bare CF black and the new straight wing is painted. It should be the other way around.
So I would doubt this configuration until picture evidence is available.

There also seemed to be a F300 in 1998

Re: Need info on project Ferrari F1-2000 Fiorano version
I've always wondered about these black "Fiorano test" cars outside of the F300. I've never seen any "spy" photos of the actual cars, so it really makes me have doubt to them ever existing.
With this F2000 subject, the model makes no sense at all. Why would the nose/wing be painted at this so called early stage of testing? To me to only logical idea would be if they were using a F399 wing, and I doubt that the F399 and F2000 noses were interchangeable. If this test took place later in the season why would the car be black?
As a big fan of one off cars and test cars (my first post here was to ask about the F300 Fiorano test car. And I'm still working on it! ) I really want this car to have existed. But, I also really have my doubts.
I'm not trying to "rain on your parade" Kars, but as a fellow Tifosi, I just wanted to talk about the historical accuracy of the car.

Re: Need info on project Ferrari F1-2000 Fiorano version
Don't worry, i'll build it anyway.
I have no reason to think it didn't exist.
I can't think of any reason why a manufacturer would fantasize about these 2 cars.
Not sure about the livery though (straight wing/delta wing etc).
But hey, will look nice on the shelves.
To me it makes sense the car is not red with a black nose.
This seems to be a 'mourning livery' (9-11 version in 2001 and 2005 death of pope John).

I did find some pics of the car without any decals, but painted in red. But who knows, I'm sure they did some testing without paint at some point

I agree with JayKay. It makes no sense to have a black car with red wing. But the F300 black was real.
Delta wing was used in 1999, but black and the angle was diferent (not too much angled). And in 2000 it was used for most of the season, except in the last two races, like JayKay said too.

Re: Need info on project Ferrari F1-2000 Fiorano version
Today i had a chat with the creator of the black car.
He told me it was a fantasy project.
So i think i will terminate this build.
