MFH Toleman TG183B Pre Season Test Version
Building this for Ed Sexton for my Ticket to the NNL East in NJ in April. Out of all the Model Factory Hiro kits I have done for him, this one is thnicest quality kit wise. The car has to grow on me looks wise!! Back in an era of F1 when they tried such funky aero packages. The way it is going together so far will hopefully make up for it.
Here is the real car:
So far the engine has assembled flawlessly. The white metal components are the best molded parts that I have seen in their kits so far. Very little clean up was required and they seem stronger than previous kits I have done. I am building the engine to represent the restored version with a semi gloss black trans versus a steel colored one.
The color is a very vivid dark blue. I sent of a swatch of the blue on the decal to Jameston at Scalefinishes who matched it perfectly. This color will work for the other versions as well.
More very soon!!

Re: MFH Toleman TG183B Pre Season Test Version
Hey dave!
Nice to know that SF will do that color. I really didn't want to have to go to zp for it (shipping kills you).
You should check out MFH's 917/30. I just finished it and it is STUNNING, the level of casting. It's miles better than the Toleman, trust me. The engine alone on the 917/30 is just beyond belief. Once I get some pics, I'll post it. It'll definitely be in ATL this year.
I have this one and really wanted to do that same version. I have always loved the 83b for it's shape, even better than the 84 car. Will watch with interest. I plan on doing this one next year, so maybe we can compare!
I'm glad to see this one getting done!

Re: MFH Toleman TG183B Pre Season Test Version
More progress:
Engine is ready to be implanted and more minor detail added. I shot the header with alclad Copper and Jet exhaust highlights.
The body panels received coats of Scale Finishes Candy F1 blue. It looks light in the photos but that is a result of cranking up the exposure compensation on the olympus. I painted it over primed and base white surfaces. Once I add the decals They will be two part cleared with Omni. Not shown are all the other pieces that are all white metal that was finessed with 320 grit paper and 000 steel wool.
I could go nuts with CF decals but the CF on the toleman is spotty and almost looks like fiberglass. Instead I used the kit suppled CF and added strips in certain areas to add interest. All of the semi black is duplicolor acrylic lacquer directly from the can. It is my semi black of choice from now on. The front suspension is all made of white metal components. Like the engine there is no plastic present! Its pretty heavy!
The rear Fuel tank bulk head was covered with kit supplied foil.
