What decals and part to buy for Tamiya Lotus 79

Post by jaws »

Hello All, I was just was looking through all the posts for the Lotus 79.
My question is what after market decals and detail sets are preferred for the Tamiya kit?
I have seen some decal sheets and mention of some detail sets.
My goal is to keep the build simple. I do want to put the JPS decals along with the Goodyear’s on the tires.
maybe just getting the Tamiya PE set will do. Will of course need to add a seat belt kit.

Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks,
Jeff

I fully intended to keep the build simple and have just about managed to stop myself from buying every accessory set on the planet for when I (finally) get round to building it!
I recommend:
The Tamiya p/e set
Some fill-in baccy decals - our own IndyCals or Tabu
Some fill-in tyre-brand decals - same as above

But I also bought the eJan engine intake kit which looks like it will be a great addition.

I fully agree with the eJan engine kit. I bought two (one for my FW07 or M23) and one for the 79. This will *make* the engine on these kits.

There are lots of after market parts for Lotus 79. I can provide some links, but I don't have info on each and every item.

Here is list of sets and decals from MFH - http://www.club-barchetta.com/SHOP/703481/list.html
Here are detail sets from Studio27 - http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/list/927/0/1
Here are other detail sets - http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/list/851/0/1
Here are decals - http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/list/1401/0/1 and http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/list/1400/0/1

You can go wild on those. Or you should decide for yourself which ones you want to buy.
With all MFH sets, for example, it's easy to exceed cost of full detail multi-media kit.

Thanks for the info.
Looks like the Tamiya PE set and Indycals decals will be in order.
I do want to confirm what this ejan engine kit is.
Is this the correct set? http://www.club-barchetta.com/SHOP/EJP828.html
Please clarify where I should get these parts as they do seem to be a good investment to improve on the car.
Never purchased anything from Club-barchetta before.

EJP828 is DFV engine detail set. As far as I know only Japanese customers can buy from club-barchetta site.
For North America best shops I know to get MFH parts from are http://www.macsmodeling.com/1-20%20Detail%20STORE.htm
and http://www.stradasportsstore.com/

Here is what I have picked up so far for my Tamiya Lotus 79.

Image

From E.Jan we have:

EJP820 - Lotus 78 & 79 Wheel & Rain tire set
EJP822 - Metal Monocoque
EJP828 - DFV Funnel & Distributor set (Highly recommended)
EJP830 - Interior & Exterior decor set

Tamiya's own Photo Etched & seat belt set #12635

Decals from MSM creation:

MSMD158 - Excellent decal sheet and instructions/guide covering most JPS variations.

And I'll probably pick up the rest of the E.Jan sets when my finances recover...lol
(PE brake set & sliding side skirts)

At a bare minimum I would suggest the E.Jan DFV set and the MSM decals.

Regards, Dan
