blitz building the 79

Post by accuracing »

Just having a lot of fun with this new Tamiya release.
Almost straight from the box.
So far, no major fit issue, but the main body part with the sidepods assembly is where you will have to be careful.
Color of the decals is a bit too orange for my taste, but no biggy!
Nice to go back to aluminium panels and painted suspension arms. No freakin CF.
Still have to deal with the racing harness , polishing and decal work for the body and plenty of minor touch-ups.

Overall, well worth the wait!

Much easier to stay motivated than with the F60.

Yep, very nice. This is going to be a really popular kit - probably tops even the Fujimi 126C2 !!

Nice work, looks great. Is the Good Year lettering molded on the tires like their older kits?

Since the kit tires are without molded letters, the letterings were done with a photoetch stencil. I had those in store since the early 90's. Can't remember the name of the manufacturer!
When possible, I prefer the slight imperfections created by the use of a stencil. I found them more alive and true to the real method formely used be the actual F1 suppliers of the 70' and 80's.
They are close to the size of the molded lettering that Tamiya used to have on their 70's style tires. They are not a perfect fit but it did the job.
More annoying is the lack of tire "brand" on the decal sheet. It leaves a lot of empty space on those rear wing end plates.

At least, we have the aftermarket business to solve this issue.
