Re: Help, please, for 2 logos of Alfa 179
Hi Gilles,
These two decals have cost me a lot of time researching them, as I'm trying to backdate a 1980 179 into the 1979 version. I have been unable to find anything useful online despite extensive digging and have finally decided to make them myself!
The first point I'd make is that the ones on the studio 27 sheet and on the diecast 1/18 179 are incorrect. Having examined a number of period pictures and looked at them under a magnifying glass! I have concluded that the Monfrini sticker has three words directly underneath it which are; Busto Arsizio Italia, which I presume is the part of Italy where the company was situated. Below that, as your picture shows it says bonded structures.
The other decal is completely wrong! The company concerned is Saft, a french battery manufacturer, and I believe that the word after the company logo, which is outlined, not filled in, is SOCEA or possibly SOC3A. The underneath writing says Advanced Power Solutions or Systems.
I have already made a first version of the Monfrini decal, but I'm not entirely happy with it and I did it in red, for the North American races. I will be re-doing it shortly, so can let you have a copy of my artwork if you'd like. The Saft decal I'm still trying to get a good match on the SOCEA font and will take a little longer.
Hope this helps!
Regards
ES

Ah! I was concentrating so much on the E/3 question that I totally missed the C/G issue! Nice spot Thomas!
