Tamiya 1/20 Mclaren MP4/7
Picked this one up off of Lezdep for a great price with tons of extras. I've been working on it off and on. My goal is to get it to about the same point as my MP4/5 build and get the bodies painted at the same time. I've done some scratch building and have some more parts on the way. Here's a big photo dump of my progress so far. Most of the work has been focused on the engine/rear suspension so far. It's almost all just dry fit together. If there any question as to what parts I'm using feel free to ask. Also any input/suggestion/criticisms are welcome as always.
Again thanks to Lezdep for the kit.
Thanks for looking!

Great subject choice. Lovely looking chassis. I like the extra details, think that gear you added was the reverse gear, I've seen it written that Mclaren had the reverse gear mounted externally outside the box to save space.
What is the tool that you are using, don't recognise it.
Look forward to more updates...

If you continue like this, you will create an impressive McLaren.
I am looking forward to see more of your progress.

The tool you see is my staking press. It's an antique watch makers tool I picked up at an antique store in my parents home town of Abilene, Texas. Amateur horology is another of my hobbies. I'de say it's about 97% complete. It's a Kendrick & Davis Inverto, mfg. in Lebanon, N.H..
The tooth count is off for the reverse gear but no one will ever see it anyways...

Re: Tamiya 1/20 Mclaren MP4/7
Started prepping the floor and building better exhaust tips.
The floor has had all the pok marks removed and the holes for the exhaust have been cut. The exhaust holes themselves are partially covered by some p.e. heat shielding so they don't need to be perfect. Although the shape of said shielding is wrong I think. I'm going to try and do some subtle heat staining there so that should be fun.
For the exhaust tips I formed some thin aluminum sheet around a mandrel and sanded/filed them to shape. They aren't perfect and still need to get their seems filled. They look a lot better than the moulded kit parts (imo).
