Nice!
Why did they use such a wide track at this race, I thought one of the reasons for the 4 small wheels was to hide them behind the front?

Good point Marco ! Goodyear wasn't willing to develop the small front tires for Tyrrell in 1977, they were their only customer for it. Then the choice of rubber was very limited for uncle Ken. AFAIK Goodyear produced the tires for the whole season (for tyrrell's small front wheels only !) quite early in 1977. This was a huge problem as they were not soft enough on some races. The extended front wheel base appeared at the french GP if I am right. But maybe some members can bring additionnal informationsMarcoSaupe wrote:Nice!

But you are fully right if you think at the initial idea : having a better penetration in the air of the car, Cx coeff, the extended front wheelbase P34, late season 77 version, is the opposite !
Anyway the car looks so nice to my eyes...

Wide track or not, the tires were quite a bit shorter, so that should still have helped aero efficiency over the standard ones (less surface area facing the oncoming air). I have to guess that the width was widened to improve handling characteristics/mechanical grip - maybe reducing understeer?

Wonderful looking model of a so-cool prototype.
There is some consensus that whatever slight aero advantage was gained by the tiny front wheels was almost completely negated by the giant rear tires; in fact the cars were only marginally faster than their 4 wheeled predecessors. When williams played around with the idea they ended up with 4 smaller rear wheels to minimize drag- now why can't Tamiya do a Williams 6-wheeler?

That is indeed why they did it, but it was becaus the tyres wheren't developed anymore by GY.taliesen wrote:I have to guess that the width was widened to improve handling characteristics/mechanical grip - maybe reducing understeer?
Didn't help enough, so they went back to normal tyres in '78.

Hi,
very good job!!
Just to know what blue did you use for this car. I have one at home waiting for free time but I'm not sure about the blue to use. I have the Zero color.

You don't need to search for a good color...Tamiya TS15 is the perfect color to use and easy to apply.Just make sure that the spraycansJesusM wrote:Hi,
