Project Nr4: Tamiya Benetton Ford B188 1/20

Post by fakeru »

Finally I can show you my 4th built! It was the most difficult model to build for me.
The painting process was very difficult to handle. I did mess up twice with the top part (removable part). At one point I thought this is it, no chance to repair... but with the third attempt I managed to save the part.
Honestly I thought the model will look better. I bought some normal tools and some tamiya paints, but I didn't make any progress on the building quality. I'm still failing to with some decals and painting.
For future I'm planning to use an airbrush, may be this will help. And I will have also tamiya masking tape and tamiya glue.

This is Boutsen car:

4th build???
Great work mate!
Congratulations

PS: I've seen some of your previous works, namely the Mercedes in your avatar. What about the F189 and F60? (those were yours first 2 right?)

I think you are improving nice. Keep going

My previous models were Lotus 99T and Honda RA272. The next one will be Tyrell 020, although I was planning the F189 (easy to paint :D)

Thank for appreciation, but I think the photos do not really show all the bad things about the model, especially on the painting. The biggest mistake was that I used the most simple tape for masking the paint...

Sorry mate, I was confused...

I think we tend to overlook to our "mistakes", because we know where they are. I think we should avoid mistakes, but they are part of the learning process. All this to say that my 4th project was a Corolla WRC that looked like was built by Frankenstein himself. Plain white body, but a lot of decals to destroy!!!

The B188 is a tough build and it looks good to me! Good work!

Hi Sandu,

If this is your 4th build. Well done. You did a great job. It must have been difficult to spray those different colors. For masking a model. The bast tape is tamiya tape 6mm, 10mm and 18mm. Not the 40mm. You can also use bare metal foil for masking, but then you have to remove the residue from the bare metal foil with tamiya fine polish. Keep up the good work.

Best regards,
Lesley

This kit was one of my earliest builds as well. Every paint job since then has seemed easier! Agree with eyckles; Tamiya tapre works great; I would never use anything else. Keep up the good work!

I find your build rather nice. Sure there are things that could be better, but overall it looks nice. Could there be some parts assembled wrong on the rear end as the tyres seem to have toe-out?

What a great result for you fourth build. Not an easy kit to paint and I agree with others that Tamiya Tape is still the best for masking.
