BT49D Monaco 1982

Post by JM »

BT49D Monaco 1982
This is the kit representing the BT49 series’ last winner. The Monaco Grand Prix of 1982 at the same time marked Riccardo Patrese’s first win. I will have to change Riccardo’s helmet as the decals provided with the Tamiya kit are incorrect (the parmalat lettering should be blue not red).

I know the kits have some flaws and they are not very detailed. I hope you enjoy seeing the pics anyway. And here is a look at my Brabham cabinet which is filling up.

Next up is the BT50 Canada 1982 version.

What's the story with your BT.....would it be a BT51? The one before the 52. Is that a kit? Conversion? Can I request some pics of that? I've only ever seen one pic of the actual car, if it's not a kit, where did you get your references for it? Good job on all. I always liked the Parmalat Brabhams...though I was'nt a Piquet fan, quite the conundrum back in the day. :)

You should have very soon a way to solve that! ;-)
BTW you'll need also to replace the "PATRESE" red lettering on helmet's chin by a santal to be fully acurate.
Excellent string of Brabhams: I want to have exactly the same units, still acumulating material... and will to do it!!! :)

WOW,

Such a good set of 49's!!!
Together with your other cars a very nice collection of Brabham's.
Eventhough you know thier not 100% accurate, this is something I like so much to do aswell.
Ever though about doing the BT48 as I did some time ago?
Also not that much diffirent as the other BT49 conversions you did.

Anyways, extreamly nice work!!!

Great to see these finished! :)

There might be flaws evident to you, but the overall effect is extremely impressive! 8)

I, like others in this thread, much preferred the BT49 to the BT50, so this has been really helpful in setting out how to tackle this conversion!

What are you planning to delight us with next?

Best wishes

Hi bossy122,
yes it is a BT51. I did a WIP on that earlier this year. It's a conversion. As the pics of the thread are somehow gone - here are a few again:

I too didn't like Nelson Piquet back then as I was a Reutemann and later Prost fan and he pipped them to the title in 81 and 83. But today I think his outlook on life was great - taking nothing to serious and living to the full. And that made him what he was.

Hi JamesB,
got it today, thanks a lot!!!
As for the Santal I'm quite sure that he had still Patrese on his helmet chin at Monaco. Maybe that changed later during the season.

Hi Roly,
I've got the AMD BT48 kit, so I will not do it as a conversion. Not really sure if I shall be happy about it as I quite like converting kits.
