WIP: 1/20 Tyrrell P34

Post by chongman »

Okay, don't know how the photo album trick will work out but I can say the build is on !

After waiting for a week for all orders of paint and other supplies to arrive I have laid down the primer on the P34 build. This will be my first build in over 6 years guys so take it easy on me!

hey chongman, good luck with the build. looking forward to more updates.

i have found that any part on a plastic kit that is to be painted semi-gloss black - - and usually there are quite a few - - i don't need to prime, unless there is a lot of sanding/priming/sanding required. anyone else do this?

The Tamiya Fine Light Gray primer went on real well. I will wait for a couple of days before messing with anything  Lots of mold seams to work on then!
I plan to do some super-detailing on the ignition box and distributor cap, along with a few other select areas like the dash and gauges along with some wiring and plumbing areas that need some attention.

When you post pics in the gallery, you might want to use your personal gallery... There is an FAQ section under the '@' tab...

Dr E
Took me awhile but I got the user album all set up now !

Mr. Grumpy..
I'm with you on the parts going straight to X-18 paint skip the primer stage. In my kit the mold seams are really bad !

Why did you prime everything before removing seams etc? Usually there's a fair bit of prep work to be done first.

A light coat of primer let me see better what work needed to be done. The main pcs, body, chassis, engine block, tranny, etc. had alot of work done prior to primer. I'm using the fine light grey from Tamiya. Lots of ways to do things, this works for me.

Today final parts arrived from Racing Miniatures. i will be using a Perfect Parts TB2 Seat Belt Set. I also have the Museum Collection Monaco Upgrade Parts Set. There's a couple of PE parts that I'm not sure what they are for so more study is required. The paperwork is in Japanese so that's no help there but not a problem.

I'm with you Chong,
primer helps me to see all the imperfections I need to work on better than bare plastic.
I'll be following this closely as I have two of these in the pile.
