Completed - Tamiya Mercedes CLK GTR Sportswear Super Detail

Post by mickbench »

The link posted below are really high resolution pictures, and are nearing or some of them over a 1MB in size. They are eating a lot of my online storage capacity up. Therefore, they will not be on there for long, 1 – 2 months at best. Therefore guys and girls if we have any (LOL) if you want ref: pictures for your own Merc CLK GTR, then I suggest you get them right now, whilst they are online.

As the pictures are high res, and some of them fairly upclose, the edges of some of the painting looks a tad scruffy, or white glue behind the rear lights is still curing (takes days for white glue behind lights to cure sometimes), but some of the pictures are magnified beyond what human eyes can see at… Well, they are to me, but by eye the model does look very clean…

I’m not posting these directly into this post, as this would be totally unfair to those not on broadband, and have posted smaller images for those who are on slower connections. You can get the high res pictures here –

I think it’s also time for a quick run down of what has been put into this model. The base kit is the Tamiya Sportswear CLK GTR.

The base colour used was Floquil Railroad Colours Bright Silver
Cleared with Mr Hobby Top coat Gloss
The interior was fully decked out in SMS 1/24 and 1/20 twill weave decals
Seat was flocked with black flocking
Crazy Modeler 5 point harness installed
Studio 27 P/E set, including wiper, meshes and rear wing assembly
Entire chassis covered with SMS 1/24 twill weave decals, as well as manifold headers, air ducts, and air cleaners and gearbox cooler systems
Rear wing was CF decaled with SMS twill weave 1/20 CF decals
SMS /Studio 27 P/E nuts, bolts and washer, as well as fasteners to wings, ducts and glass added all over to add additional details
Detail Masters 2,3,4 braided lines, with fitting lines and A/N fittings added for fuel lines, oil lines, and gearbox lines
Various wires used throughout to simulate engine looms, interior wiring and ignition, fuel cut off, and gearbox lines
Front air duct modified to allow fitting of modelers braided lines
Front /rear suspension damper adjusters made from plastic, and detailed with fuse wire, and sakatsu flange nuts
Front oil reservoirs scratch built
Body modified to allow front and rear cowlings to be removed
Brake discs detailed with scratch built wheel bolt hubs, with sakatsu wheel nuts added
Sakatsu duel antenna added
Rear engine bay covered with MFH heat shielding, including bulk head
All CF decals cleared with Mr hobby topcoat Semi Gloss clear
Various shades of Alclad II used for metal /mechanical parts
Exhausts lightly heat stained
Engine, mechanicals washed in smoke or black inks

Now for those who aren’t too bothered about high res images, the ones below are for your viewing pleasure, I shall take more with the body fully on, and wheels mounted when I’ve got some more time, as its pretty late now.

Enjoy, comments or critics, just post away… Thanks for looking

People like this should be banned from this site. People like this are simply too good. Their projects are stunning pieces of art. The quality is of such level that the less skilled among us will spend more and more money on projects in trying to achieve that level. Many will end up poor, devorced, homeless and frustrated to say the least............

Haha, just kidding. Wow  , a piece of art, stunning.

You got any more projects on the way?
