When putting the brand decals on both sides of the tire on open wheel cars how are the they lined up? IE, would the Goodyear decal be directly opposite on both sides of the tire? Any other placement info? I can never see both sides of the tire at the same time in photos.
Thanks,
Ken

Re: F1 tire decal placement
Photos show they are cross-matched: The winged shoe between Good and Year is directly across the 'G' in EAGLE on the opposite side.

Re: F1 tire decal placement
When the teams painted the logos themselves I suppose ti depend on how the mechanic would turn the wheel over to paint the other side.
I know that if I would have done it the wheel would be lying on the ground in front of me and I would place the template at the top. Then I would flip the wheel forward painting the other side giving the logo at the top of one side and at the bottom on the other. But if would turn over the wheel flipping it sideways instead the logos would end up at the top on both sides.
When did the practise with the teams paint the tyres end?

Re: F1 tire decal placement
To carry this even one step further, I’m assuming that the wheels are already mounted and inflated. The era of OZ and BBS wheels, etc. Were these wheels painted by their factories with the lettering and logos aligning with the spokes in any certain way? With the WBC (World Branding Championship) being as important as the WDC AND WCC these days, I would not be surprised at all.

1992 was the last year Goodyear tires were sprayed.Orso wrote: ↑Sat Feb 24, 2024 11:45 pm When the teams painted the logos themselves I suppose ti depend on how the mechanic would turn the wheel over to paint the other side.

Re: F1 tire decal placement
I'm surprised that it was so late. It's a good thing thatI don't have any interest of cars later than 1980. I can still get away with my bad paint of the wheels

Re: F1 tire decal placement
I would say it was also important when painting where the markings were on the tire.
On the one hand there were the Good Year markings and on the other hand later the pre-embossed grids for machine painting.
Only in the very late past was it possible to simply paint like want.
I attached some pictures from the painting in 1990/1991 and also from Pirelli marking (maybe it's also interessting).

Yes , not sure if someone already mentioned (reading from the phone) but after all machanics sprayed on already factory cast raised letters so aleatory factor is out anyway.
