Lotus 98T - Tamiya conversion

Post by Steffen_T »

Hi all!
I got another car of the desk. And like my previous Tyrrell 026 it is another 'last car'.
This time it is the Lotus 98T. The final JPS Lotus and also the last F1 car raced by Johnny Dumfries.
The version I tried to replicate is the one from the Australian Grand Prix, which was the last race of the season. While Senna had to retire his car, Dumfries finished the race in sixth place, scored a point and gave us some amazing onboard footage:

I am not entirely sure, but this could also be the first time a car with onboard camera finished in the points.

I did this car using Tamiya's Lotus 99T. Additional parts were:
- Conversion decals by F1 specialties, which worked surprisingly well despite the age,
- pitcrew decals for the "97T" by Decalpool (they also included Dumfries),
- replacement wheelnuts made by Thomas. Thanks a lot!

Apart from these parts several modifications were required to give the car the correct look.

As this build included my last decalsheet by F1 specialties, I would like to dedicate this build to Norm.

Hello Steffen,

your conversion is great, the body shape and the windscreen look perfect, I always like the work of F1 Specialties, your nice figure give a life to the model as well.

Cheers
