Looks like small block chevy, shielded distributor in rear and oil filler in front....Corvette is my guess

Looks like an early 1960's or late 1950's Chevy small block as you said. Cheetah ? or 1959 Cat Eyes :)

Most of the Vette's have injection plenums on top of the motor.

Could be an early 1950's Cadillac motor also but it looks like a 55 vette motor. Wow that is strange. Maybe a Sebring Vette ?? Not the SS.

The air cleaner is from a '56-57 Corvette. Could be the SR-2 Corvette, carburetor version was possibly '56 and '57 had fuel injection.
