Superb build, congratulations. Were there any issues to look out for in the build, I have this kit in the stash. How are the decals?

Also congratulations from me. The finished car looks fantastic. Especially the gloss black paint.

Do you have a mclaren mp 4/7?

Could you share a picture to compare these models side by side? I was wondering if would be a close conversion.
Here you go Badi, I think it's possible, with a bit of work

Thanks Daveyman,

Just some tidy-up was needed, it is typical of many resin kits I think - the body needed a bit of putty along the underside of the nose and cockpit to smooth out the mould line. I also puttied some of the front suspension rods so as to sit flush against the body, same also with the front wing elements, to sit flush against the endplate.

The decals are superb in that they have virtually no excess carrier film. But where there is clear film (e.g. in between all the lettering "Lightouse" "Liqui Moly", M-B logo, etc) I had quite a bit of silvering, despite the paint having been sanded smooth to 12000 grit, and using lots of decal softener. Maybe it is just unavoidable with a black livery. After the decal had dried, I ended up cutting out a lot of the clear film in between the letters, with a sharp-bladed hobby knife.

The same decals are used for the tyres, i.e. they're not the sticky-backed Tamiya type, so in order to make them stick, I brush some watered-down PVC white glue onto the tyre, place the decal, dab gently with moist tissue and clean any excess PVC. Once the decal has dried, I spray the tyre wall with flat clear (I used Tamiya TS-80) so the clear carrier film mostly disappears.

Yeah the trouble with black basecolour and decals..... allways a competition.
It definately needs a black glossy surface, if needed even polished, the smoother the surface is, the better is the sticking of the decals. Even clear coating can be needed with a light polishing to get rid of imperfections.
However, your finish turned out nice and is looking great. :)
Take a stand!

Great, great result :P :P
Always loved this car, simple but iconoc and effective livery.
That, BTW, enhances a nice but quite "standard" (for that year) bodywork style.
MP4/7? I´d rather go with a ´93 Lotus. Much closer and less job with wheels, tracks, suspensions...

BTW...

Really thanks for your kind pictures...

not so close as I thought....

Lotus 93 should be closer, But I am assuming I am not the best viewer to judge, according the previous comparison.
