What is happening here? Paint question.
Hello. I have been experiencing this thing where my TS26 dries with patches of flat....looks like dry skin. I put down a sticky coat then warmed the can in a bowl of water and blasted a nice looking gloss coat.....only to have it dry with this horrible finish. I shook the shiite out of the can, I sanded out seams and even those areas dried crappy......what am I missing? Is it the paint? Is it the plastic? The atmosphere? Quite frankly, it's pissing me off. Any help will be greatly appreciated, thank you.

I don't really know what is happening there Bossy, but it looks nasty!
You don't mention anything about using primer/undercoat.
If I was facing this problem, before I go down too many rabbit holes, I would rub it all back, give it a shot of white primer, wait a few days and then do your top coat.
If you get issues with the primer, then its a surface thing, if you get issues with top coat again, then you can look at a new can of paint and atmospheric/application conditions.
I reckon/hope a good prime might just be the ticket.
Good luck!
Cheers. Tim

This has happened before and primer didn't help. This one I used no primer with. I would have thought if there was something on the plastic that at least the area I had to sand off an unused fuel cap ( 180 - 2000) would have come out nicely, but that area is just as bad.

It looks a bit like orange peel to me but the inconsistent finish may suggest the paint itself isn't working as advertised? A bad batch?

Thoroughly clean some white plastic spoons (it is becoming rare as plastic is banned now) and spray them with the same can of paint. If similar issue happens on the spoons, you can probably ditch the can.

I did that and it didn't come out glossy but it didn't come out like that either. I went back and went over the entire car with 2000 grit, put some primer over it then went TS26 again. The primer dulls out the gloss but at least it's consistent now. Now the fear is pulling bits of paint off with masking tape......always something.

Re: What is happening here? Paint question.
Years ago, I had a can of TS8 that had similar but not the same issue. The paint never gave me a good surface and it did not adhere evenly well to the surface. It ended up with some area could easily peeled off.
I think it may be a shelf life issue.
You give it one more try with the primer. May be you should try a little bit of polishing to see if the paint sticks to the primer or not first. If the paint does not stick well, you should just wash the whole body and start with a new can. It will be better to invest in the paint than your work being ruined later.

Silicon products under your paint? I don't know how this is called in English but in Italian it's Scrimatura.
This reaction happens during the dry process.

So, would that be some sort of release agent on the plastic? A good soak in Tyre Blech like with a resin kit?

Brand new can of TS15, yesterday on the left, today on the right. Any ideas as to what happened?
I did heat the can in warm water last night.....
