MFH DFV - Lotus 79

Post by Johnya »

Hello,
Can anyone tell me if the stand alone 1/12 MFH DFV is the same as in the 1/12 Lotus 79?

Thanks,
John.

Hi, John. I’m working on the 1:12 Lotus 49 and I have a “spare” engine that I’m about to build and place it next to the finished car. I’m pretty sure it’s a duplicate of the Lotus 49 engine. I’m not sure that the Lotus 79 engine is the same as the 49, but I’d guess it is because of the engineering and the molds.

Hi John, the stand alone version has pistons with connecting rods and crankshaft. In the Ford of the Lotus 79 there are no connecting rods and crankshaft, the version is simpler.

Hi John,

The early DFV used for Lotus 49 has a slightly different cam cover and probably different velocity stack length than the engine used in Lotus 79.

However, model companies may not differentiate these deltas in their model offering.
