Thanks for the kind replies! I'm trying to get little bits done each day even if it's just painting 1 piece
Re: 1/20 1989 'grid'
That´s really impressive and congrats for hunting the HTF kits.
Me, honestly, prefer the B189 over the 188, maybe due to its bulky "ugly" profile.
The 88 I find too graceful.. Always wanted to convert an 88 to an 89...

Re: 1/20 1989 'grid'
I like them both, same goes for the B187. Might also Build a B188 as part of this project (A Canadian version with camera or a phoenix one which had parts of the sidepots cut away for better cooling) but this will only be build after the others are finished.

Oh that´d be interesting. Always interesting to depict when there was room for improvisationDaliracing wrote: ↑Mon May 29, 2023 1:59 pm I like them both, same goes for the B187. Ah yes the 187 with its different color scheme was also very interesting.
About 189 and 188, I´d say that "bulky is the new sleek" would apply to the 89. Higher sidepods made curiously the car look as lower overall, IMHO. and I dig the low air intakes. It was the beginnong to hight sidepods, and it looed fine. or instance, I loved the 190 at first sight.
Hmmm I think I will PM you with a ew questions on the 189... as I plan to make a 189 form a Tamiya 188.

THanks!
It is really clear right now.
Now, I thought these might be of interest. I know the B186 does not belong here but, it's interesting to compare them...

Re: 1/20 1989 'grid'
Hello all! here again with a little update on the Benetton. I've finally corrected the small errors in the paint and done the wheels.
The wheels used are the ones from a B188 kit as the turned ones of the S27 kit might be useful to build a B188 with those polished rims. Tyres come from a scrap lotus 107, cleaned the old yellowed decals with acetone and airbrushed the logo's on them using the MFH stensils. The white paint is ral 9003 from monopol (automotive paint which covers very well) also a little 'detailshot' of the carbon brakeducts: and couldn't resist a quick mock up : Will have a few busy weeks ahead now but will try to build in the meantime. If i manage to get another 'big' step i'll post it for sure

Re: 1/20 1989 'grid'
Hey all, Long time no see, life got busy but i might be able to get more time for this project again. There is a small update tho.
First of all i was happy with how the wheels where turning out but remembered i have a 3d printer so decided to print some small details for the wheels like proper center nuts and valves.
Benetton B189: For the lotus i noticed i glued the halves of the wheels wrong and wasn't able to save them. This resulted in choosing tamiya rims i had as spares. The rain tyres provided in the modeler's kit are nice and actually fit the tamiya rims perfectly but the front ones are to small (outer diameter) so i decided to use slicks for now ( might try and draw/print some rain tyres in the future)
An added bonus in using tamiya rims is you can choose which bolt/nut to use and as the lotus had some unique looking nuts i wanted to make these aswel.
the yellow rim was painted after i did the black (first using some monopol white which covers black well!) added some spare 'lotus' decals to have the correct wheels for this one (something that could be a problem for the larrousse as those decals don't exist)
Lotus 101:
