In newsstands you will find the current car of the day you go (if it is not booked by someone...), when the new model car arrives in newstands the previous model car goes back in warehouse.
This is what happens in 98-99% of cases. Here in Italy you can be sure you'll get the item you want only if you subscribe the whole collection, otherwise, if you don't find it when it comes out on nesstands, you have to hope you can get the item as back issue.
I missed the Ferrari 312T4 of "Le grandi Ferrari F1" 1:24 collection, and it is no more availabe not even as back issue...
Usually some months later you can find the item you want in some model fair or exhibition at higher price.
I don't mean to discourage you, but this is the acual situation.

So if you look for a particular model it may be good to try one of the options to order as mentioned above, otherwise you could check in with a couple of the newsstands (there are quite a few of them even in smaller cities) and hope to find something nice.
