After a long break (moving homes, new family member, ie lots of distraction!) I finally picked up on my conversion project again, concentrating on the rear wing and engine cover. The FW24 provides a decent basis, but the 2004 aero and components are just a lot more "generous", hence a need to add materials:

First step was to extend the rear crash structure/light backwards, which could be done easily with some plastic card. A curved panel helped to close off the rear light.

In addition, the beam wing has a bigger profile at the center, curving inward towards the endplates. Less straightforward is the top wing plane, which is curved backward at the center. This took quite a bit of bending/sculpting of the plastic to get it right. The only challenge with the main plane was to make it fit the curved top plane. The scan of the S27 decal sheet as well as the FW24 parts helped with the dimensions of the end plates, an easy cut from plasticard. The parts will need better alignment and I may need to create some slotgaps or pin holes to get a good fit, but the tape mockup looks pretty good.

Final step for this update is the wing plane behind the airbox, which BAR added from the San Marino race (first pole for Button and for Honda in the third era) onwards. The plane was found in the spares box and added in after some sanding, after which I added another engine cover fin on top. I am not yet satisfied with the overall look & fit of the engine cover + chassis, so some more work needed in this area.

Next steps will involve the flaps behind the side pods, exhaust openings, nose pillars, errrr, a lot of things! Meanwhile, if anyone can help me out finding:
- an original Studio27 decal set for the 006; and/or
- a set of BBS wheels (I have spare OZ or Enkei if you want to trade)
please drop me a line.

Thanks for looking!
