2020 Indy cars
I've just gotten my first look at the 2020 Indy cars and I can't decide if they remind more of F111 fighter bombers.......or the Spy Vs Spy guys. Thoughts?
Re: 2020 Indy cars
For me neither. They just look awful.
They managed to make the aeroscreen look worse than the Halo...

They are growing on me. Especially after checking out some of the previous crashes and how much safer the new screen should make the cars.

I think if safety is the concern, they look great. Halo is meant to stop tires from entering cockpits and thats about it. The aeroscreen stops debris from coming in whilst helping stop large objects as well. Would it have saved Dan Wheldon? Likely not, but its a step in the right direction.

Re: 2020 Indy cars
The screen may not look great, but the races at road America this weekend were good. More safety is just parts of where open wheel racing is a going. I get a Kick out of kurmudgeons on nostalgic f-1 on facebook who want race cars with bath tub fuel tanks no wings and street tires. There is no turning back the clock except in esports.
by bath tub fuel tanks, i mean ala lotus 49 style where driver sat between two gas tanks in a bath tub of death if anything went wrong.

I get safety. I totally get it. However, over the years I have seen shitty driving because of the sense of security these cars give. Stirling Moss has made reference to this over the years. For me personally, the Halo and Windscreen are little over the top. I will get used to them. Just my two cents.

I still think the best thing that tracks can do to increase safety is remove the massive areas of tarmac. It makes sense on corner entry, mid corner and corner exit it simply doesn't, and it allows drivers to do crazy things they never would if there was grass or gravel.SBEST wrote:I get safety. The shield saves Justin Wilson and eliminates Masa's trauma. I have a fried that designed IndyCars and Sports Cars over the years. He thinks it is essentially criminal the Halo and Shield took so long.
