Primer for Ferrari Red

All,

I'm about to paint a 1:43 Tameo Ferrrari 156/85. Currently it's in flatted Tamiya fine surface primer grey.

I'll be using Tamiya Racing Red.

Simple question: What's the best primer colour? I've got some Tamiya white primer too.

Cheers.

I have used Tamiya white primer on my 1/20 Ferrari and was very satisfied with the result. Other users have suggested Tamiya pink primer but I don't wanna buy another one which I will use only for Ferraris so I will stick 100% with my Tamiya white primer.

I've used pink as a primer and it didn't affect the color. This was with Splash paints and the red for the F2003 GA came out way too dark.

I’ve used Tamiya pink primer and really liked it. Where I find it most useful is where I’m trying to seal/prime a red plastic body. In that type of situation the number of primer coats is significantly reduced.

You may want to prime then paint the car gloss white then apply your red coat over that.

I've never tried it myself but I've heard a light coat of yellow works very well under red..

Thanks all, I used Tamiya white primer, flatted. Then Tamiya Ferrari red spray can, decanted into the airbrush:

I’ll leave it to harden until the weekend, then polish with Tamiya compounds and get some decals on.
