1/12 Trumpeter GT-40

Post by tubegenius »

I've asked this question in the past, but got no replies. Now that the re-release is out, I can get one for about 135USD. I know that it is sadly lacking in detail, but I'd like to know if the exterior is reasonably accurate for a curbside build. Also, are there any major flaws in the assembly process? Thanks for any help.

I am looking for one kit too, EU preferred.
I sold mine a while ago and regret it.
I already have the KA-Models extension set.

The Meng version should also be coming out in the future. Most of the issues I’ve heard about the Trumpeter version better around the engine. I’ve heard good things about Meng from military modelers, so depending on your budget, maybe buy both and see how the reviews are for the Meng. It will likely be more expensive than the trumpeter.

I built it when it first came out. I think the body looks fine. It was a fun build of a historic car. I used ICON tires and some extra PE.

Here's my build and in the link you will also see a link to the build report.
I should have used Icons tires as the kit parts look terrible. About accuracy both the Trumpeter Kit and the KA detailset are crap !!! ...but you can build a decent kit especially if you go curbsite. Engine is not nice for such a modern kit.

Thanks for the replies. I ordered one, figuring I can't go wrong at that price. Some sellers on Ebay are asking nearly that much for the Fujimi 1/24 kit with no engine at all.

Edit: With the new release, perhaps someone will offer a few 3-D printed improvements?

Äkschually... has the Meng GT40 been released yet? Via googling I have found a facebook post where they showed the model and box art. A bunch of comments from the FB crowd for it. Among others they were referring to the air intake, which does look wrong and also does look like a new kit altogether. And after that I went to the Meng webpage and couldn't find the GT40 listed under "civilian" anymore. Anyone know what's up - do we get a rebadged Trumpeter kit or will it be a new kit? Btw I thought the kit should have been released by now. Wasn't it already listed at HLJ a while ago?

Tubegenius, would you please post photos of the kit content, in particular the body, when you receive your kit? I would like to compare it to the Trumpeter kit in my stash. Thank you
Cheers,
Roman

I built the original kit with KA update a while ago.Was an fun build. The addition of the Icon tires are a must, though.

Think the Meng kit is under the covid19 circumstances.
Don't wonder if the skip the release to a later date or to next year.
Thats my thoughts.

one would think Trumpeter rushed their re-issue just to bother Meng. And every next time Meng will try to launch, they might re-do.

trumpeter re-issue is what it is, don't expect new tooling.
