For NASCAR builders, it looks like Mike's Decals is getting an exclusive first release of the upcoming JR Salvinos models 1/24 1986/87 Pontiac Grand Prix 2+2.

It took a while, but I recently received my NuNu Audi R8 GT3 from HLJ, along with the detail set. They look good.

I've been getting into more NASCAR kits lately, partially to help with my painting skills, but also just because they're fun, colorful and pretty quick builds. Does anyone have any experience with the Salvinos builds? My understanding is they're updates of Revell or Monogram kits of the time, but I heard some people had issues with them.

I was getting tempted by the Salvinos kits and did some research. Also way back when I built several of the old Revell kits. From a what i could gather the kits of cars that raced during the 1980’s are reissues of the revell kits. I think they may have new clear parts and maybe new tires though. He has also done some new higher quality chrome parts.

Then there are the kits of older cars he is issuing. Those appear to be some sort of new tooling but they are a little crude in my opinion. Take the Chasis of the new tooling kits, the floor pans tend to be flat plastic. Those older cars had some sort of stock floor pan in them, I don’t know what the chasis were based on in the 1970’s anymore but they awere not just flat sheet metal floor pans.

Build quality, I remember there were build issues with the old Revell kits but not that bad. Things like the suspension could use some tweaking in many cases to lower the cars stance. Often the cars had to much wheel well clearance around the tires as the ride height was too high. Mostly though the cars were descent builds as to the Revell kits, they had no break detail,a engines we’re okay. For some reason the Chevrolet kits got more attention than the Fords and had a little better detail and more accurate for the Chevrolet cars.

There are some good reviews of the Salvinos Jr. kits on youtube.
