Williams FW12 1988 Studio 27 Transkit.
My apologies as this is a bit of a mixed "Work in Progress" / Completed Projects thread but with a heavily "Finished" bias. I hadn't discovered F1 in 1988 having only become aware in very late 1992, early 1993 but for some reason the FW12's slightly Jelly Mould kind of shape interested me. This was the year after Honda split with Williams forcing the team to field customer Judd V8's.
During my research I came across numerous Pictures showing the Car running minus a large piece of the Engine cover but didn't give it much thought. However upon opening the Box I saw that it contained a pair of beautifully Photo etched Judd Cam covers & it just felt like a huge waste to hide these away under the Bodywork so I decided to model the Car in it's semi open bodywork state. Nervously I took a Dremel to the Resin & very gingerly started to grind away.
Before long it was looking as I had hoped. There was an awful lot of "Meat" in the Engine Bay area, so I decided to remove alot of this too.
I found that the donor Tamiya Engine sat too far within the Bodywork for the Cam cover to show & sit in their correct position so I had to remove the Gearbox, widen the Engine halves with Plasticard & then reattach the Gearbox afterwards.
After that it was the usual Painting (Zero & Halfords Lacquer), Decals & Lacquer. Final assembly builds up into a really crisp, clean Model.

& just one more.
Having now finished this I really want to crack on with my future Projects, there are a few in (very slow) progress, FW's 10, 11B, 13, 14B, 15C (LOVE!! this one), 15D (very early '94 passive test Car), 17 & 18. A mix of Studio 27, Tamiya & Fujimi.
Thanks for looking, hope you enjoyed it.

Very nice car indeed, quite rare, I think this is the very first I have seen completed. Stunning work on that engine, I doubt it could be done any better! And you have a stunning collection of Frank's cars there, all from my favourite F1 era, the FW10 being the best among them all!

Thank you for the compliment & replies, I hope that you enjoyed looking. I usually only build during the Winter & often only ever manage to complete one per year, so I've quite some time before they're all completed! I started FW15C about 4 years ago but couldn't find the right (kinda Mustardy) shade of Camel Yellow, eventually Gravity Paints made the precise '93 shade I wanted, all the others were just, very obviously, wrong. I absolutely love this Car, my all time favourite so after the delay, this is the next one on the list. probably followed by the 15D or 18 (second favourite, very, very happy memories) to answer your query, yes, 10, 12, 15C, 15D, 17 & 18 are all Studio 27 kits. 11B & 13B Tamiya. 14B, 16B are Fujimi. Eventually I'd like to convert a 13B into a 13, maybe pick up a 12C & (maybe) add an 11 & 16 in there too but that's a very LONG way down the list of things to do

Fantastic work on carving away the resin, I have this kit too and I don't think I'd be brave enough to do that. Great to see one built up, and built so well. I too really like the Idea of converting an FW13B into an FW13. I have the decals all ready, I just need time. I'd love to see your future williams builds, I'll be watching out for them.

Thank you! Regarding an FW13 conversion, I had made a good start on one & was happy with progress, but unfortunately the Lacquer destroyed the Paintwork, trashed it, split, tore & shattered it completely. Since then it has served as a Paint/Lacquer/ Decal test Mule in a bid to avoid this happening to any other future projects.
