Not much progress on the Lotus 49. I finished painting the Jim Clark figure. I used Valejo paint and the excellent decals are from BestBalsaKits (shame he doesn't make more 43rd decals).

I sprayed the frontsuspension (inner part) and the monocoque aircraft grey.

I've done some scuffing work on the seat because it looked to clean. I will pounder around with some colors and oil paints.

I already chopped of the rear suspensionmounts, they will be replaced with brass ones as is the rest of the rear suspension. For the first time I will try out to chromeplate them by electroplating. I have all the chemicals and powersupply. I did a testrun to see if everything works.

I began working on refining the detail on the MFH Lotus 49. The tube for transporting the coolant was made from white metal, I replaced it with a brass tube and made the fixingpoints from brass.

The struts to hold the radiator is provided in the kit with PE. Since the PE is flat I decided to make them from 0,3 mm nickel silver rod. It wasn't easy to drill 0,3 mm holes in both end.

The rollover bar is remade with 0,7 mm nickel silver rod bend into shape. The one in front is is placed in aluminium tube and the rear one is soldered to the fixingpoints.

Fantastic work you're doing here on the Lotus, truly impressed. I like the updates you've added, they really add that little bit more to the kit. Keep up the great work.
Cheers,
Chris

Great detail work!!
I'm intrigued by the chrome plating stuff. Looking forward to see how that works!

Love the nickel silver rods. Not easy at all.

Nice start mate

I have been building 1/43 for a good while. Been out of it for a few years but still follow the forum. I too have a couple of MFH 1/43 kits and have yet to muster the guts to actually start one due to the level of detail and all the small bits. Kudos to you for making it look so simple. If you start to do more of them, I highly suggest a magnetic tumbler/polisher. It makes clean up of the small stuff much easier.

Once again, looking forward to seeing your build.

Thanks for your comment. A magnetic tumbler?? okI've heard of them but never found the need to use this. Most of the time I replace these parts with my own made parts such as suspensionarms, exhausts etc or get replaced with AM parts. But again, thanks for your advice.
