Hello Folks,
Does anyone have any detail photos of the MP4-4 heat exchange device on the right side of the engine?
Very limited instruction from MFH or Top Studio on how it connects into the cooling system.
Thanks
All in advance,
Mark

Re: MP4-4 heat exchange question
When you ask heat exchange are you talking about the turbocharger intercooler or the coolant radiator?

Re: MP4-4 heat exchange question
turboF1
What i am seeing now is that it is called water/oil heat exchange and it is the silver box looking thing on the lower right side of the engine that has a water connection to the front of the engine and a braided hose type connection to the oil tank on top of the transmission.
I never saw the water connection until looking at the 1/8 MP4-4 Deagostini model build on another website. MFH and Top Studio shows the connection from the oil tank to the rear of the unit, but nothing of the front of the unit into the front of the engine and to the radiator.
Thanks for the reply

Re: MP4-4 heat exchange question
Very interesting. I've built the Top Studio kit for the 1/20 Tamiya MP4/4 and never saw that part. I'm sure the 1/12 MFH kit has it. That Deagostini 1/8 is a very interesting kit!maw2717 wrote:Here is a picture of the unit on Andre's MP4-4 build

Re: MP4-4 heat exchange question
No good pictures found of this part.
On the pics below you can just "guess" the part. Does not look like that there are any mesh-typ cooling fins here. Just a container.
Best regards,
Michael

Re: MP4-4 heat exchange question
Well, it's a heat exchanger not a radiator, so there are no cooling fins.
Cool water coming from the radiator and hot oil coming from the engine meet ( don't mix ) in that box and the heat from the oil is "exchanged" to the water.
I checked my books and pictures, but on those with the engine out of the car the "box" isn't installed so they don't really help.
The best i can offer is this:
Which doesn't tell you much more :-)
My best guess is, that the box is connected to the left radiator ( the large but slim one at the front and ahead of the turbo intercooler ) with the pipe running under the intercooler's sidepod duct.
It would be a bit like ( but not identical to ) that other box on the left side of the car that's only on the late season car without the periscope turbo ducts.
