I am currently building the P412 #26 from the same race. As this is not my first MFH kit I knew about the stiff decals. My solution to this problem was masking and painting the white roundel and then cutting out the numbers and only applying them as a decal. This worked out quite good as you don't have to stretch the decal that much this way.
I know that it is now a little late for this.....

I work with Mr Mark softer from Gunze, works nice. On such complexe areas i use as anyone else heat from a hair dryer, if that does not work, i additionally use a heated wet cotton swab. Make the cooton swab wet, press it shortly on a heated soldering iron and then roll it over the decal. This brings partialy more heat and softens more, but the heat stays not long on the part.
If you go for new decals, i would do same as Bodo said, masking and spraying white, then applying the cutted numbers.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I'm going on a little holiday in a few days, and I had hoped to finish this part of the build before that. Anyway, in modeling, hurrying is never a good idea, so I'll decide afterwards. Probably I'll clean up the doors again, order a new sheet, cut out the numbers and spray paint the white.

I have had similar issues with my 412P. The piece that forms the lower windscreen surround on each side sits up at the back leaving a gap between it and the top of the door. Have not tried to fix yet, but as indicated by 'rasputen' hot water may be the solution. I also found there was insufficient clearance at the front of the door to allow it to open. I have removed some material to allow a partial opening but am reluctant to open the gap any further as it will ruin to overall look.
As for the rear engine cover I also had a fit issue, but mine was too low, rather than too high. I addressed this by only partially inserting the lower rear sub-frame tubes into the main engine sub-frame. This fit problem was of my own making as I have the whole engine assembly angling too far down, but am not really prepared to strip all the way back to that step. This whole issue arose because the engine mounts on the block did not align perfectly with the attachment points on the engine sub-frame. This led to the engine sitting 2mm too far back such that the 4 front mounting points on the engine were not in contact with the 4 attachment points on the main transverse central "firewall" frame. To address this I drilled out the 4 front mounting points on the engine and on the firewall frame and inserted brass pins to ensure a robust connection. However on assembly the CA dried too fast on the pins for me to get the correct alignment, hence the incorrect angle.
Many thanks for the warning about the decals. I think I will also opt for the painting the white roundel and apply the numbers over the top.
As far as the window surrounds go, mine were a very good fit.
Overall, everything else has gone together well with no other fit issues.

Front cowling will be reasonably straightforward; the fit is nice and all subassemblies are ready. Rear cowling will still be a major pain, the fit is great -- on one side. And not with inner components fitted. Anyway, one thing at a time
