1963 Lotus 29, Dan Gurney

Post by indycals »

As raced in the 1963 Indianapolis 500. This is the old 1/25 scale AMT kit as modified with a transkit that I will be selling in about a month.

The transkit will include:

New resin nose by Calvin Sallee (Chaparral2k on F1M)
New vac-u-form windscreen by Calvin
New tires by me (cast by Lance Sellers)
New decals. The Jim Clark decals will have silk-screened yellow markings. You can either decal the yellow stripe or paint it TS16 to match the decals. The decals will also allow a 1964 Jim Clark Lotus 34 to be built from this kit.

Nice looking model Michael, and in particular the tyres! They really give the entire kit a lift that the AMT tyres could never achieve.

Thanks Terry - the windscreen is a big improvement too - I figured that the kit windshield was 1.5 scale inches thick! (3.81 cm)

I could be worng, but I do believe the Lotus's wore Dunlop tires in '63 and '64. As I remember, Clark would have made a fool out of the rest of the field if the Dunlops hadn't started chunking. Both Clark's and Gurney's rides were so plagued.

The 1963 Lotus 29's ran Firestone tires. You are thinking of the 1964 Lotus 34's that ran the chunking Dunlops.

Yep. But Clark's car in 1963 had 'Dunlop' printed on the rims. I haven't been able to discern if Gurney's car did too.

Hi Mike,

Could you please give me some heads up about the headers installation? I know from where to where they go but somehow they simply don't want to fit :-(

Did you install them before the engine is installed to the car?

I bought the Clark's decal (old ones?) from you some months ago.

All the additions looks really good on your model by the way.

Thanks,

Starr
