Ferrari 1512 - NART Version Fiote Models - Finished 12/01

Post by mhbaumer »

Guys;
This job a did made a three year ago.
Paulo Fiote gift to me some parts of your kit in resin to make a Ferrari 158 curside, all mechanical parts were missing, I decided to improvise the mechanics in Scratch, and finally decided to install a 12-cylinder Flat Engine. So I used a block of Tamiya's Ferrari 312 T3, I also adapted some parts of Honda RA 272.
Here are the images:

Now this i will follow with great interest.

I own 2 of these Fioti kits and had the same idea.
Rebuild 1 to a Ferrari 1512.

What's the reason for having cut the cylinder banks? Did you make the engine narrower?
Remember the 1512 engine is a 1500 cm3, so smaller than the Flat 12.
Also I fear the camcovers are very different.
Nice effort anyway. :)

Thanks Guys!
James, the Flat Engine used in Ferrari 312 T3, have 2.992 the 1512 1.49.
The stroke of the cylinder in the engine used in the Ferrari 1512 is almost the half of that used in engine of the Ferrari 312 T3.
Of course in such a project like that I´ll not be 100% accurate, the idea is fun me like a crazy man!
Moreover, without this cutting width engine would exeder the monocoque.

Some more progresses:

Lots of putty, dremmel job and sand!

Watching closely aren't we James.

Where did the base engine cover come from? It looks like plastic to me. Did you use the original Fiotti resin piece and vacuform a new cover?

Thanks again James!
Paul, I used a original cover.
A piece of purple resin, so I used a dremmel to go spending the piece, then applied putty, finishing with much sanding.
A couple of hours of job and dirt!
