Building the 1974 M23 as a 1973 car

Post by Craggyisland »

I'm toying with building a 1/12 Tamiya Texaco-M%$$£""! Mclaren M23 as a 1973 car.
Indycals do the decals :D , and I have the kit, so all I need to know is what changes are required to make an acceptably accurate model?
The vents at the front of the airbox are obvious (and easy), but I'm not sure if there's anything else significant.
Any ideas guys?

Since only Yardley raced the M23 in 1973, you need a different airbox. Mac has the correct airbox in production and should be available soon. Keep an eye on his webpage, or go ahead and pre-order it.

I only modified the air box on mine, but I'm sure there are probably some less obvious things.

BTW, love your user name - funny show!

Hello Craggyisland and welcome back,

Follow this link:
http://www.f1m.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=52&t=15854
And have a look at the note that I posted a while ago, the two main differences would appear to be the difference in the length of the wheelbase between the 1973 and 74 cars and the moving of the rear wing some six inches forward in 1974 following the first restrictions on wing size and positioning that came into force that year.

There is also a second thread about the details of the M23 here:
http://www.f1m.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=52&t=15855
But that relates more to the later cars. I hope to be adding some more information to this latter thread shortly, but again that information relates more to the later cars.
