WIP - Ferrari 801 Long Nose MFH 1/20
Hello All,
On to the next project . Based on your feedback, I've decided to build the MFH Ferrari 801 Long Nose.
I've had this kit in my "to-do" pile for a few years now, and finally getting around to it . Kit is standard MFH quality, which means Fantastic!! The beauty of MFH kits is you get everything in the kit so you don't need to buy any additional detail parts......or very few at least.
I'm in the research stage now, any pictures or links anyone may have of the 801 would be greatly appreciated.
The one question I have is what color of red should the 801 be painted. Originally, I was thinking a little darker shade, but some pictures I've managed to come across look like TS-8 Italian Red would be appropriate. Any advice or ideas?
Here are the kit parts, beautiful as expected. I am particularly impressed with the resin body panels, the crisp mold lines and details are stunning.
So, off we go, oughtta be a fun trip .
Cheers,
Chris

I've got the short nose version of this kit. I plan to use TS8 when I get to it in the pile.

Hi Chris,
Really pleased to see you building this kit and the resin body parts should be a lot easier than the metal ones on my D50. I think you need to go a shade darker than TS red, I used an automotive GM red called "Flame Red" here in the UK.
Also be very accurate with the chassis assembly, I made the engine and gearbox up first and this helped by using them to align the chassis rails, all the chassis parts are mid grey.
I,ve attached some shots of a D50( they were pretty much the same car) to give you a rough guide and I'll try to find some 801 reference over the weekend.

Hi Chris,
Found a few period pic,s, you might have to refer to a good book for more, as you know Mr Ferrari scraped most of his cars after they had done there thing, I have a picture of three 801's piled on top of each other! far to sad to post here!

Aren't these MFH kits awesome, I haven't bought this kit yet, still recouping funds from purchasing five 312's and a San Marino F2004. But it is on my hit list... Keep us well genned up on this one please Chris...
I've always believed that you should never, ever give up and you should always keep fighting, even when there's only a slightest chance.

Thanks for the pics and info. Alex, it's very helpful.
Having read the Enzo Ferrari biography, I learned that the Ferrari 801 came to life from the Lancia D50, then I looked at the two kits and surpise-surprise the 801 and D50 have the same mechanical parts.
Cheers,
Chris

Moving right along now, I'm in the cleaning and polishing stage of the build, a must with multi-media kits. All the white metal parts have been cleaned and are drying now.
Now I can actually get to assembling on some things.
Cheers,
Chris
I used the magnetic polisher, threw them in, walked away and 1/2 hour later, all clean and pretty . Best money I ever spent for the magnetic polisher, that's for sure, saved me days of cleaning on the white metal parts. Now I can actually get to assembling on some things.
Cheers,
Chris

Chris, I must get one of those, the polishing is the bit I always dread.
