Finished Hasegawa Lotus 79 Jarier

Post by bossy122 »

Hello all! Spent my holiday weekend finishing this beauty up. This is the Jarier car from Canada '78. The one JP was racing away in when JP's luck hit and knocked him out setting up Gilles' storybook first win.
This is the Hasegawa version. If you haven't noticed, it is devoid of dzus, i'm still torn on whether or not I want to apply them! I know it's more accurate, but to me it just doesn't look as good! They all stick out like very sore thumbs! The kit went together rather well, I do think their DFV and exhausts went together FAR easier than I ever have had with Tamiya's. There were a couple of places where I thought the instructions went awry. If I had to do it over again, I would have applied pieces B3 and B7 onto the chassis in step 8instead of step 11, that way I could have cemented them on and then painted the thing instead of painting the chassis then fumbling around applying the 2 pieces with super glue. And after the fact I realized that if you dry fit D7 to the chassis, you can mark out the perfect mask line on the chassis! I did it freehand and it wasn't perfect....ah well.
I hate to say it but the body pieces still don't fit as flush as one would hope.... I suppose those dzus would help, huh? :D My one big criticism is that Hasegawa made all the nice decals for the interior but didn't bother to tell me where they ALL go! And not having any pics of the "real" 79, I had no refs for where they go.
I used Tabus decals. Let me tell you, these things a tricky! The top stuck to me better than the bottom did to the car! They have little to no film, so they are a chore, but they do look good! I did have to do some splicing here and there. The really pain in the ass part was the rear wing pinstripes! The rivets on the wing made it really difficult to get them to lay down! Lots of Microsol on those!
But in the end it all comes out pretty nicely. I hope the Tamiya one I have does too....though with that 30 year old DFV....So thanks for looking!

Nice to see Jarier version, very good-looking build & pics. Love those laurels on the rearwing, the sign of a successful season!
