Re: Group Build 2009 : WIP Brabham BT46
Hello All,
A little more progress on the Brabham BT46.
I'm a big believer in modeling that wires, tubes and line should have a start and finish place, and since I upgraded the electrical system with revised wiring and distributor, I figured "why go half-a$$ed?" and decided to add spark plugs and plug caps to finish it off. Before I connect it all I take a couple pics to show. Have a look.
Spark plugs and caps (not shown yet) are from RB Motion. Very cool little pieces.
Seems as I progress on this project, I find more and more to add/upgrade, I wonder if I'll ever finish???
Cheers,
Chris

Terrific work Chris, I like the blackwash effect and all those bolts and fittings!

Re: Group Build 2009 : WIP Brabham BT46
It's me again.
I got the plugs all wired up, and I had to share, since I think they look really cool. Plugs and boots are from RB Motion, and are a very cool set-up, much improved over the standard Tamiya "use this very thick wire and just feed it into the hole" approach, mind you, which is still better than nothing at all. I think this one will be displayed with bodywork off..
Duke, the fitings I used are from RB Motion also. The tapered (red) portion is machined as part of the line, with the other (blue) portion being separate for mounting. They are very easy to use and look great, imho.
Next up is to finish plumbing the fuel lines and start painting the body.
Cheers,
Chris

Hey Chris the engine is looking fantastic. I didn't know that RB made the plugs in 1/20th and your details with the bolt heads really sets the paint work off on the engine castings. If I could be so bold as to make a suggestion. Maybe use a few dabs of flat clear on your red and blue fittings. In real life these types of fitting are anodized and do not have anything more then a semi gloss finish at best. Keep up the great work!!!

Re: Group Build 2009 : WIP Brabham BT46
Hey Guys,
OK, one last posting for the weekend. It's a holiday weekend for us, so I've managed to get a lot done. I got the fuel lines all attached, and I must say, it was "a little difficult". Despite the fuel lines attaching well at the fuel-pump, they wouldn't mount at the injectors, so I had to take some of them apart and use smaller wire for the attachments (shoulda' done this from the beginning!!). In the end, it all got together.
I also got the transmission completed, shown temporarily attached to the engine for you all. I made the shocks new from aluminum tube and 24gauge wire. I know the springs aren't supposed to be black, but I like the contrast......maybe they're just really dirty . I used Scale Hardware bolts for all the necessary trans and suspension points. I plumbed the braided line for the trans. fluid, but the line "collapsed" after attachment, so it's a little flat. I used Detail Master here, and am a little disappointed. Any recommendations for better (non-collapsing) braided line?
Icon,
Thanks for the tip to add a touch of flat to the fitting finish, I think it'll look better. I appreciate the feedback. Do you know a flat clear that can be used alone without turning white when applied?
The plugs are actually RB Motion's 1/24 scale plugs, you're right, he doesn't have 1/20, but the 1/24 are more appropriate for F1 applications, as F1 plugs are tiny, much smaller than a standard plug. And they fit perfectly in holes on the cylinder head cover.
Well, enough for today. Thanks for looking (and reading). As always, comments, feedback and recommendations are always welcome and appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris

Hello All,
One more small update. I got the exhaust completed and installed. Base coat was M.M. metallizer Magnesium with "heat-staining" done with Tamiya weathering kits.
Have a look, hope you enjoy.
Cheers,
Chris

Engine and trans are looking great, nice touch with the exhaust.Try using a piece of wire inside your braided line it will help to keep it round and it will also help hold it's shape.

Thanks Gary, I put some wire in the small line this morning, and it worked well.
The larger line doesn't have an open center, so line can't be fit, so far as I can tell. But it's holding it's shape pretty well, so I think OK.
Thanks again,
Cheers,
Chris
