I think I have it figured out.

Just ordered Indycals' Peterson decals for the unbuilt Lotus 78 in the closet as a memorial to Ronnie.

Then I will build one of the new kits as Mario on the run to WCD.

Then get a set of Martini decals (are you listening Michael?) for the other new kit to build as Carlos in 79.

Jarier and Rebaque must wait.

Here's the real question to me: which kit will be better?

I am pretty confident that the Hasegawa kit will have more detail and will make a better build ultimately -- the Tamiya kit will fit like a dream and will be quicker but Hasegawa will be the preferred kit for the aficionados.

What do you think?

Good news. Martini version is a must. But it seems there are quite a few modifications needed beside decals.
Hopefully there will be a trans-kit developed eventually.

I'm glad Hasegawa did not back out. I've placed my pre-order to support them and hope sales will be good
enough to allow Hasegawa continue to develop new kits. I suggest for all who thinks about getting Hasegawa kit
to place their pre-orders earlier to show support and display good potential for sales to Hasegawa.

So what is really needed? I guess that an early 1979 car would be rather simple to build.

Well, this one should also be on the books, right? ;-)
And really easy to do. Anybody in?

I had exactly the same thought James!

I think the D3 is almost as easy to do as well, but the rollover bar surround is more akin to the Williams FW07 and the nose is more angular, but nothing that a bit of putty wouldn't fix!

If you're planning to do the decals I'd definitely have a set.

Regards

ES

Yes I'll do since there's already some work done.
Just to make it clear, ES, I asume you mean the D3 is ALSO easy, right?
Because the car on the pic is a D2 ;-)
That said, the D3 is in fact a backdated D4, so I would do it from a D4 rather than a 79 :)
That'll take longer, no doubt.
As for the D2, it's not an inmediate lookalike as (with certain matisations) the Ty009, but you can have a decent thing.
If I did a D2 I'd change windshield (taller), rollbar, taller too, and depending on the version, adding sidepod side panels. Also opening the front rockers fairings. Add some good decals and you're OK.

The Hasegawa price of 3800 for the 79 is still only estimated at this point, but 20% off is 20% off.

Mac,

Are you going to be selling it, too?

Steve
I will be selling the Hasegawa, and Fujimi kits all can be pre-ordered now, and save at least 15%. Check out the website for details. http://macsmodeling.com/1-20%20STORE.htm
