This is a very good WIP so far, made more enjoyable with plenty of pics. Looking forward to your next update.

Quick question re: the books shown in your references picture - would you recommend the Haynes Lotus 72 Workshop manual as good reference material?

Cheers, Paul

Hi Paul,
Yes, I do think the Haynes Lotus 72 Workshop Manual is worth picking up as reference. You can never have too many references  .

Hi Chris,
Like Paul I've also been curious as to the whether the Lotus 72 Manual has any modelling benefit, so thanks for this vote of confidence. I will seek one out soon.

Hello All,
Despite my embarrassingly lack of posting, work has been proceeding on the Lotus 72E, albeit slowly as always.

Still working on getting everything cleaned up and primed, with some work on the front suspension and engine bits.

Another thing I've put some time into is the brakes. With the brakes sticking out of the front bodywork, they deserve to have to time and attention paid to them. The kit brakes are composed of two halves, and when built have quite a gap running down the middle, so I wanted to use the Acu-Stion p.e. set. It's all well and easy, except they are only the rotors. As the calipers are molded in conjunction with the kit part rotors, I decided they would need to be separated somehow for use. So, the kit rotor/caliper halves were glued together, and allowed to dry thoroughly and strongly. Once dry, the calipers were removed, first roughly, then cleaned up. After that, the slot for the rotor was cut with a rotary tool and cutting bit, then cleaned with an Exacto knife. Once happy with the fit to the rotors, the join line down the outside center were puttied and cleaned up and primed. And now they fit nicely and can be attached in the correct location and alignment. Rotors and calipers need to be painted and and will be ready for assembly :D .

Beyond the brakes, the tub has been given a coat of s-g black, in anticipation of some Alclad Aluminum paint. Nothing special, but it all looks smooth, and should have a nice final finish.

And finally, the body work has had the first couple of light coats of gloss black paint applied. So far, no dust or clag in the paint, but the finish is pretty rough still. A couple heavier coats, some clear-coat and some polish, and it oughtta be nice and shiny. Just gotta be patient  .

So, that's where things stand at the moment. There is still quite a lot of prepping and cleaning to be done, but making progress in some other areas as well. Onward and upward as always.
Cheers,
Chris

Looking good Chris. Your last update was less than two weeks ago... so from my perspective you're a frequent updater!

Hi Chris,

Great work on a great car.

Can I ask, which rivets are you using and are they all the same size? I'm building a new tub for a 1/20 Williams FW07B and I'm thinking of using individual rivets as you have.

I can't wait to see your progress on the 72E.

Thanks,
Phil
