Perfectly fine just make sure you renew your license every three years and keep up to date with the latest practices...

guess you have to have done this to know thisah100m wrote:Well, not really a cabinet scraper but a metal scraper tool. Google "metal scraping" and you'll see a lot of resources and illustrations. If you go to

some of this technique might be useful.
I had to do it for 4 consecutive hours during lessons in school. I immediatly felt how to use the tooling, got into the zone and scraped away. However this technique was something i could excell in, result after these 4 hours was rather dissapointing: surface seemed worse than when started & have been in awe for those who can ever since

didn't MFH include a decal sheet with this pattern in the kit?

Scraping is a really old technique to flatten a piece of metal. Here is a youtube video that explains what it is. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7QOCE1-fB6Yah100m wrote:Well, not really a cabinet scraper but a metal scraper tool. Re: Bugatti Type 35 1/12
Thank you guys for the many comments and pictures concerning the motor surface.
Of course I knew that Bugatti motors look more like smooth metal.
But cast white metal parts from MFH are a little bit scared and uneven. It's easy to sand and polish them up to a chrome like finish like the water cooler in the picture, if the surface is flat and continuous.
Unfortunately that motor has many cast details like screws and lines that prevent a satisfying polished result. So I opted the sandblasting method .
At the end I was not really happy and the comments here in the forum changed my mind. Therefore I removed the cast screws and other details and started the sanding and polishing proces for a more Bugatti like metal look. Later on I have to add the removed details. Lot of work to be done then, I wanted to save !!!

Great!
It's more work but the end result will be more satisfying.
I think that's the whole point of doing a 1:12 scale project.

The removed cast parts at the engine are replaced now by turned brass and MFH screws.

Looking great, good choice to switch over to the machined look.
Take a stand!
