Looks like dehydrator does really help. Gotta get one for myselfFuel*Buzzed wrote:Just a quick update.
The black base is dry, and I am going to start polishing it tomorrow. It took a day and a half for the base to dry well enough for me to start polishing it. I will see what kind of outcome I get.

Ok...
I just finished polishing the base coat...
All I need to do now, is to wash it and clean the compound off of it. Then I need to get the nerve up to paint the polished aluminum Alclad II over it. I fear that that is what is going to ruin it...

No, it's going to be just fine. Alclad is easy to apply. Don't know how could it go wrong. Just do couple of light coats. As they sayFuel*Buzzed wrote: ...

using airbrush on a similar fashion to regular brush with smooth long swips/swings. Hope that actually make some sense. Alclad
is recommended to be applied with low pressure up to 18psi. But I did it with 25psi and it seemed fine.

I did some experimenting with different alclad aluminum's. I found that a coat of Dura-Aluminum over the black, and then a coat of Polished Aluminum, would really bring the finish out. So, here is the first coat of Dura-Aluminum.

Here it is with the Polished Aluminum. It turned out pretty good, except for the areas just in front of the radiator cooling intakes. It kind of looks a little dusty... I will let this dry for a couple of days, and then hit those areas with a soft cloth only, and see if I can knock them down a bit.

Hope it works out... Still watchin very closely so keep us updated, I dont know how it would turn out if you were to lightly sand the spots and re-coat the whole body with polished Alu ??? Its the sort of paint finish that has to be perfect prior to sealing..Fuel*Buzzed wrote: I will let this dry for a couple of days, and then hit those areas with a soft cloth only, and see if I can knock them down a bit.
Good Luck Man.

That looks nice, too bad about the spots infront of the sidepod though. But I am sure you will figure it out!

I hit it with some Zymol, on a piece of flannel shirt this morning. The rough areas disappeared. I will however shoot it again with another coat.Dede wrote: Hope it works out...
