Thanks for your replies!
SteveNoble wrote:Nice start Jake. I'll be following this with interest as I have this kit myself to build in the future. For the dash decals you can just use a punch and die set to punch the decals out from the sheet, thus removing the carrier film entirely. They will fit a lot better then. If you haven't got a punch and die set then a careful hand and some sharp scissors will easily trim off the excess carrier film, hope this helps..
Thanks Steve. I haven't got a punch and die set, however I did end up trimming the carrier film off the edge of the decals. I heard from someone that all of the EBBRO kits have Cartograf decals, however it only says so on the decal sheet for the Lotus 49, so I don't think this one does.

I have a couple questions.
- You painted the whole tub with Silver Leaf, including the outside surfaces. Are there other body panels, then, that are to be painted black and attached?
- How is the Ebbro "aftermarket" front frame? Does it add significantly to the kit? Looks pretty cool.

I have this kit, but haven't looked through the instructions yet, and as it is on my list of potentials for the GB, I am interested to hear and see you comments and progress. Helps me to plan resources  .
Cheers,
Chris
Hi Chris. Yes, what you can see of the tub is the 'inner' part, which is covered by the body side panels, in black. I will have my model with one side panel on, and the other off, showing the tub (silver) sides.

I haven't used the frame yet, so I can't comment on it, but from what I can see, it looks great. I ordered two of them, one for the Rob Walker 72C, but I'll probably build that one built up, and so I won't need it...

Thanks,
Jake

If it's OK with Roy, I am starting my WIP thread for my first model for the 2014 Group Build.

Let the fun begin, we are close enough to the start date so I have no issue with it. Everyone can start if they want!!!! 8) 8)

I'm sorry that this hasn't been a very well updated WIP post. Anyway, the Lotus is nearly finished. I am waiting for the JPS decals to come from HLJ, but this could be a few weeks still. So it won't be completely finished for a few weeks.

The tub is Tamiya TS-30 Silver Leaf.

Tamiya seatbelts:

Engine block mostly Alclad and Tamiya Semigloss Black.

Bodywork painted in Tamiya gloss Black, decanted and through the airbrush. The kit decals weren't great, and the pinstripes very difficult to apply.

Wheels were painted in Citadel for the gold and Vallejo black. The pre-printed tyres save a lot of time and hassle... and look great!

I have decided to build this as Fittipaldi's 1973 Spanish GP winning car.

Thanks,
Jake

Hi Jake,
The 72E is coming along very nicely :D , and quite rapidly to boot. The black paint on the body-work looks very nice, clean and smooth. Did you clear-coat it? If so, did you clear-coat over the decals, and how did they react?
Looking forward to seeing more of your progress.
Cheers,
Chris

Hi Chris. I didn't clear coat the body. I just painted the Tamiya black through the airbrush for two coats, and then did one final coat directly out of the can, because it is shinier that way. I then polished the paint, to give a shiny effect. Glad you like it!

Btw, I have never clear-coated over decals - frankly I'm just too scared! ;-)

Wow! That black on the body panels is excellent. I will try that approach next time, thanks for share your paint technique. The engine and transmission looks good too.

Keep the good work.
