Meng McLaren MP4/4 in 1/24th scale
Re: Meng McLaren MP4/4 in 1/24th scale
I agree with you Eric, after all Protar seemed to upscale their 1/24 MP4/2C to 1/12 rather than the opposite
Anyway it has a good part, MENG making the smaller car but a bad one, not getting MENG into the 1/20 herd. Could confuse a bit the market. I know, I know!! 1/24 users will be more than happy. But MENG making 1/20th was a nice hope

I'm sure they will re-engineer some of the mounting points to just be snap or glue parts like we have on Tamiya kits.

Re: Meng McLaren MP4/4 in 1/24th scale
I gotta give Meng credit. They hold their cards very close to the vest and don't announce anything until the very last moment. If the announcement on FB is correct, we're less than a month away from the release of this kit. They've done this with their previous kits, and I wish other manufacturers (ahem ..looking at you NuNu/Platz/Beemax) would do this as well.
As for the actual matter at hand. I like it. I'm happy to have another manufacturer willing to give us an F1 model. And I'll give them credit for giving us a choice in whether we want to build an MP4/4 in 1/12 or 1/24. I think we get a little too much into the weeds when we start arguing about whether it should be the "standard" 1/20. If the kit's engineered well and does a good representation of the subject, then the scale is really irrelevant.

Their 1/24 gt40 is a gem
Will pass on this though, 1/24 is wrong scale

Well, it is certainly different. If Meng is enthusiatic about Senna how about a 1/12th MP4/5B to complement Tamiya's Ferrari 641.

Meng can also do a 1/24 Lotus 99T as it uses the similar Honda engine.

Re: Meng McLaren MP4/4 in 1/24th scale
I did not say the engines for Lotus 99T and MP4/4 are the same. I only said that they are "similar". They are all from the RA16 series engines. There are only minor external differences.
In fact, a Williams FW11/B is also a possibility.

Re: Meng McLaren MP4/4 in 1/24th scale
Also, isn't Meng making a Lotus 99T? So assuming they'll cut it in size by 50% the engine doesn't matter much.
EDIT:
Nope, confused BeeMax, they're making the MP4/4.
