Colin Mcrae's 2000 Ford Focus WRC in Mid Air

Post by mazyen »

Here are some photos of my Colin Mcrae in mid air build. Hasegawa kit with it's suspension completely rebuilt & crew from Tamiya. Left with the base to do & weathering the vehicle. Have yet to figure out the supports though. Any suggestions are welcomed.
Cheers

Fantastic idea to do a mid air jump diorama, extending the suspension is not something I would have thought of, very good looks nicely done, I can't wait to see it all weathered and on the base.
My suggestion is use a couple of pieces of left over clear sprue sides, cut and drilled into base and underside of the car to get the gap off the ground to your preference.
Nice build of the great Man's car btw.
Dede.

I suppose it´s too late, but I have always thought that this kind of projects asks for wheels with spokes and decals blurry, giving impression of spinning. Well that´d include the thread of tyre I guess! :D

Let's assume that it was captured by a camera on a very fast shutter speed setting as per the attached photo. In fact, I thought of printing the wheels decals with a motion blur but my low res printer will not be up to the task.

I don't know where, but at some point in the past I have heard that they brake once they are airborne to stop the wheels spinning as that causes some sort of aerodynamic malarky (probably drag or lift) which is less with static wheels... but looking at some of this year's WRC jump footage shows that they don't...
Cheers,
Roman

I believe if you brake then the car will nose dive, these are all wheel drive, so not sure, but definitely have to watch what you do in the air to keep the car flat

I have done several of these dioramas now all owned by someone on East coast, loved doing these and am doing a 1/16 Paris to Dakar 959 with the suspension all extended in the air from the Fujimi kit
