All the same red?

Post by ElectricRodeo1 »

Are all these the same red? I have Zero ZP-1007 Rosso Fluorescent and a Zero ZP-1007 Pre-2004 Ferrari F1 and don't know what to use. Was the Ferrari F2000-F2003GA a different shade than the F2004-248? I have Splash SP-132 Fluorescent Red that I got to do the McLaren with, but if these cars are all the same "M@r!b*r* Red" then I would like to use the same paint. I know horse shoes and hand grenades and some one looking at them on a shelf wouldn't notice, but it would bug me if it wasn't as close to color as possible.

Thanks,

Jeff

As far as i can tell, the Ferraris were essentially the same colour from 1997 through the first few races of 2007. I’ve never understood the zero paint labels.

Rosso fluo is a different color to
M@r!b*r* mp4 red. A bit more red. Ts49 is colour matched, but has lower coverage properties. It needs to go down over white or pink to get the right effect.

The F310B thru F2007 early season are roughly TS49, always used it no issues

The rally cars from that era are the same, I use TS49

The Mclarens, MP4/11 I think and back to what MP4/1 are the flouro red, I used to use TS-36 which applied right was perfect, but cracks over time, I used Splash MP4/4 recently but thought it was too pink, I think the Zero paint is better

If you scroll down the page at the following link you'll find a listing by Ferrari F1 car type of the correct red to use:

When i look at the zero list they mention, up until 2004 the ferraris had the same (non fluo) normal red. Doesnt make sense, i recently saw several next to each other in Köln Germany (schumacher private collection) 1996 f310 next to f399/f2000/2001/2 etc., f310 was normal red and the rest had all the same marlb. fluo red (not mclaren flu but a bit in between). They used this same fluo color from the 1997 f310b until i think 2007? So zero has this wrong, dont go blind on what they say.

Thanks everyone. I was thinking the early 2000's Ferrari's and Evo's were the same, and the McLaren a little different. Great info from all thank you again.

Ferraris were never M@rlboro fluorescent red. They were a very bright, 'nearly' fluorescent red in the early 2000s, but never that same true neon red.

To add to this, I used Splash's early 2000s Ferrari Red a while ago and was not happy with it. It was far too dark.

For my f310b i used a mix of RAL 3024 (mclaren red) with some normal (ferrari) red. Eyeballed it until the desired brightness. Worked out perfect.

That's one thing that never made sense to me about the Zero Paints Ferrari colors. Never understood how they could say that Ferrari used the same red from the late 80s through the early 00s.

Never saw the M@r!b*r* McLarens in person, but I have seen the M@r!b*r* Penske's in real life, and I remember how obnoxiously flourescent the red/orange was. Hell, even McLaren has confirmed that the red used was RAL3026, so no way is it the same as the M@r!b*r* Ferrari Reds of the early 2000's.

As for Ferrari Reds, I think it's a good bet that Ferrari used Rosso Corsa 300 up to '95, and then Rosso Corsa 322 (a lsightly brighter red than 300, but still very much red) for 95 and 96. I went to the Canadian GP from 2000 to 2004, so here are my observations. The F1-2000 and F2001 use a very bright red, but still distinctly red. The sense I get is like they used a fluorescent pink undercoat with a layer of red, and I assume it was the same for the F310B, the F300, and the F399. Then for the F2002, F2003-GA, and F2004, the paint had a distinctly orange hue. With these cars, my sense was of a fluorescent orange undercoat with a layer of red over it.

For the sake of simplicity, I would go with Rosso Corsa 300 for mid-70s to 1994, Rosso Corsa 322 for 95 and 96, Tamiya TS49 over a pink base for 1997 to 2001, and Rosso Scuderia over an orange base for 2002 to 2006.
