I finally have a little time from commission work to start a little side project. After searching my stash I decided to go for this Beetle, which should be quick and simple.
Its going to be painted with zero paints and cleared in 2k, with a beige interior. Might be a strange combination but its just paints I have lying around and I think the chrome on the body panels will look good against a dark blue. Its going to be a completely box stock build. Not looking for anything complicated.
I have made a start on the body, sanding the seam lines out and given it a first coat of primer.
to be continued.....

Re: 1/24 Tamiya VW Beetle
My mom had a dark blue beetle with a rolls Royce hood conversion. That is the thing with beetles, many were were customized. I have no idea what the interior color was though now. I was in preschool when she had the beetle in the mid 1970’s

Re: 1/24 Tamiya VW Beetle
Here is the progress so far on the little Beetle.
Nothing major wrong with the body out of the box, just a couple of mould lines which were easily removed.
Primed, painted and a little bare metal foil added to the side features and then cleared in 2k.
I will now start to work on the chassis and engine.
Thanks
Chris

Re: 1/24 Tamiya VW Beetle
'66 1300 Bug was my first car, it just kept going (and high revs on each gear change...). I think I bought it AU$500. Probably worth 100 times that now.
My mother also had one throughout my childhood and drove it from Melbourne to Perth across the Nullabor Plains several times in the '60s. Although that Beetle was a '58 version with side 'semaphore' flip-out indicators.
You have my interest!

Re: 1/24 Tamiya VW Beetle
Hi Chris,
It is a nice body with the blue.
I have the same kit and just find the gap between the engine cover and the body is not that even. Otherwise it is a very nice kit.
My friend completed a re-build of a 60 something Beetle this summer in orange. He was proudly driving it around the neighborhood.
Looking forward to see you complete Beetle!

How is this coming along? I started my Revell Beetle that I received from Santa, and am interested in the differences from Tamiya to Revell kits. I painted mine Ivory.
