STP Turbine '68 Indy 500 Double Build
Hello friends,
It's been a very long time. My last post was well over a year ago and I've been missing the forum. So I've decided to come back with a double build! I'll be building a pair of MPC 1/25 Lotus 56 Indy Turbine cars.

I've had the kit on the bottom (the 1995 re-release) in my stash for at least 5 years. The kit on the top is an original release from 1968 that I found in the back room of a hobby shop in Muncie, Indiana. The re-release is new-in-box, while the original was started (body painted and some bits glued together). The plan will be to build one fairly close to box stock and the other with a lot of added detail and resin tires. I don't know which will be which yet.

Here's all the parts to both kits after removal from the sprues and some cleaning up. I also de-chromed everything and will re-paint everything. I have already cut the front off the chassis and glued it to the nose piece, as I've seen several builders do.

The first car I'll build is the pole-sitting Joe Leonard #60 with its bright yellow nose and tires. I'll be using TS-36 for the orange and have ordered some Pactra fluorescent yellow for the nose/tires.

The other car I'll build is Graham Hill's #70. I'll need to scratch up some new mirrors for this one.
More to come, and soon.

I wish you had not done this.
I have three of them started and now get a bad conscience. Well some day I will get back to them and in the meanwhile I'll follow this and pick up some useful tips.

Surely you’ve been missed I still cannot thank enough your generosity with the MP4/8
I again hope you had a great time in Spain and again so sorry not having had the chance to meet in person.
I am sure you’ll repeat anyway

Yes. It was for quick identification from the pits.

Should the yellow really be a fluo colour? I know that it look that way on some picture but it seems to be lot of work for a tire paint.

This image will help validate the front tire colors.
Cheers
