Has anybody ever seen one of these?

Post by SeanMAIN »

Has anybody ever seen this promo model in 1/4 scale? I have never seen this, but looks kinda like a late 90s F1 car. I just can't figure out which car it might be based on. It is 4 ft long!

Correct me if it's not true, but Ferrari was the first team in the late 90s (1999) to have the exhaust system with the F399 straight up out of the chassis.
So it could be based on...
What does not speak for it is the deep nose and the simple shape of the front wing. At the end of the 90s / beginning of the 2000s, these were already designed much more elaborately.
The rear wing also has a simple shape.

The wings speak more for the beginning of the 90s or Indycar.
The grooved tires only came in 1998 (until 2008) ...

So I think it will be a fantasy form that a sign maker has come up with.

Are you sure it's 1/4 scale/4' long? That would make those floor tiles about 2 x 2', which is... pretty big.

The exhausts look like 2D images printed out and stuck on top, not actual 3D, painted shapes. And there's something weird just outboard of the exhausts, too - a darker 'shape' like a sticker covering something. My guess is that it might be vaguely based on an F2000 but with various tweaks or modifications (like the sidepods and wings) for... some reason... and that the black colour is hiding the details and making the shape harder to discern. Maybe an R/C body that's been modified?
Je ne regrette rien.

It absolutely is that big. It was made for liquor store / bar / restaurant display and was available from Canadian Club distributors.

Do you know how long ago? I ask because I bought it. I don’t have it yet, and I don’t really have any good pics of it. But it was priced right and why not. Can’t wait to see the look on my wife’s face when it arrives.

And here is another sign which confirms my suspicion that it should maybe also be an Indycar... :D

It’s a Mac , no doubt. (Er.... nope, wait  )
MP4/14 or 15...
I have once such as big too.
They use to be rc .
Mine was yellow blue like an Alonso Renault.
I got it thinking it was a Mac, as it’s quite similar, but it’s a Jaguar .this one yes, it’s a different mould and definitely a McLaren, look the shape of side pods rear corner

I think you’re right. The MP4/14 does look pretty close. I think the top exhaust stickers are just that, stickers that don’t belong. I should have it in a couple of weeks. Could be a fun project making new wings, barge boards, etc. Could also be a waste of money. Who knows?
