Ferrari 330P4, Union, 1/24

Post by MarcoSaupe »

Hi

I've got something new, or in this case something restored. Many years ago I built the old Union 330 P4 (Heller). A kit that was released over 50 years ago, so no holding pins for the parts... I glued the body edge on edge which didn't last the test of time, with parts falling off. The decals were horrible and also my paintjob was not as good, so the model was hidden in a dark part of the display cabinet...
So I decided to remove the body and attached parts, strip the paint and do it again. The parts under the body were good enough, so I left them alone, I only added better seatbelts. Then I used a dozen strips of sheet to glue the body together properly... as much as possible, as I said this is a kit from 1969. I also made a new wiper, since the old one was a thick blob of plastic with no curvature at all. I had a pic where it looked alu, so I did not paint it, but now all pictures I see have a black wiper...
Anyway, to hide a few small OOPS I decided to make the car a bit race worn.
I polished the front a bit more flat, made some chips on the leading edged and then used the Tamiya weathering set to put dirt on it. Not that much, more like after 3-4 hours instead of 24; on leading edges, the front and behind the wheel arches. It's a bit subtle on most of the pictures, except for the front.

Painted with TS8 and Mr. Super Clear on top.

Hope you like it.

It looks great! I really like the subtle weathering, it's very convincing. Do you have any before photos?

Wow it loks as good as its Fujimi siblings may look, and that's merit of the builder.
Proof that this unprestiged kit can lead to a great result in the proper hands, and yours certainly are.
Also love the "old and weary, but let's restore it" attitude :D :D :D

Good restoration project, I can't see any OOOPS. Everything looks how it should look after 3-4 hours of racing

Yeah, but I'll hide it behind a link ;)

BTW: The kit had the markings for #21 which is a LeMans car, but the Union kit mirrors are for the Daytona car #24 (Indycals has the correct decals), while the Fujimi kit (at least the old one I have) has the LeMans mirrors.
